Rejuran Recovery Time: Planning It Around a Trip to Korea

The needle marks are gone within hours. The bruising is what decides your week. If you are treating in Korea on a fixed number of days, the question is not really how long recovery takes. It is which day to book so the rest of the trip still works.

How long does Rejuran take to recover from?

Visible marks from the injections usually settle within a day. Small raised bumps flatten over one to three days. Bruising is the outlier: when it happens, it can last up to about a week, and it is the reason to book early in a trip rather than the night before an event. There is no published figure for what share of patients recover by a given day, so treat any exact percentage you see online with suspicion.

What is actually healing

Two different things are settling at once, and they run on different clocks. The first is mechanical: dozens of needle entries, each leaving a tiny puncture and a small deposit of fluid under the skin. That is what produces the pinpoint marks and the raised bumps, and it resolves as the product disperses. The second is the response Rejuran is there to provoke: polynucleotides prompting repair in the dermis. That takes weeks and you cannot see it happening. People conflate the two and then worry when their skin looks unremarkable on day five. Nothing has gone wrong. The visible part finished; the part you paid for has not started showing yet.

Expect redness across the treated area and small firm bumps where the solution sits. Both look worse in the mirror than they do to anyone else. The bumps are the product itself, not swelling, and they go down as it spreads into the surrounding tissue. Cold usually helps in the first few hours, though ask the clinic before pressing anything against your face, since some prefer you leave the area alone. Makeup over fresh injection points is the thing clinics most often ask patients to skip on day one. If you have a dinner that evening, plan on going without.

Day two to day seven

By the second morning most of the redness has gone and the bumps are noticeably flatter. What can appear instead is bruising, particularly around the eyes, and it follows the usual bruise timeline rather than anything Rejuran-specific: darker before it fades, then yellowing, then gone. A week is a reasonable outside estimate for a visible bruise on the face. Tenderness when you wash or apply skincare tapers over the same stretch. Anything moving the other direction (pain increasing after day two, redness spreading outward, warmth at a single point) is worth a message to the clinic rather than waiting to see.

Who should not book Rejuran

Rejuran is made from polynucleotides purified from salmon DNA, so tell the doctor about any fish or seafood allergy before the session; a clear fish allergy is usually treated as a reason not to inject. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are common exclusions too, not because harm has been shown but because there is no safety data. Clinics generally postpone treatment if the area has an active infection, a cold sore or inflamed acne, and they need to know about autoimmune conditions, bleeding problems and any blood thinners you take.

What you can influence, and what you cannot

Blood thinners and supplements

Aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E all make bruising more likely. Clinics commonly ask patients to pause them beforehand where it is medically safe to do so. If you take them on prescription, that is a decision for your own doctor, not the clinic.

Where on the face

Skin around the eyes bruises more readily and shows it longer than the cheeks. A session concentrated there behaves differently from one spread across the lower face.

How much product, how many points

More injection sites in one visit means more small traumas to resolve. A first full-face session is not the same as a touch-up.

Alcohol and heat in the first days

Both dilate blood vessels. Drinking the night of the treatment, or a sauna and jjimjilbang visit the next day, tends to prolong redness and worsen bruising. That is worth knowing on a trip to Korea, where both are easy to end up doing.

How you bruise generally

Some people bruise from almost nothing. If that describes you, assume the longer end of every estimate here rather than the average.

None of this is a reason to change your plans after the fact. It is a reason to ask about timing before you pick a date.

When results appear, and how long they hold

  1. The published trials measure change over months, not days. One randomised trial reported a 57 percent reduction in a standardised wrinkle-severity score; another found 82 percent of patients rated their own improvement at more than 25 percent at the six-month mark. Both are reviewed in Alhussain and colleagues, Cureus 2026.
  2. A separate systematic review found a statistically significant hydration improvement for polynucleotides compared with hyaluronic acid at sixteen weeks, without reporting a percentage (Lampridou et al., Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology 2024).
  3. Worth keeping in proportion: in Korea, Rejuran is approved as a medical device, and the cleared indication for products such as Rejuran HB Plus is crow’s-feet wrinkles, which is narrower than the general “skin rejuvenation” language used in most marketing.

Sessions are usually spaced weeks apart rather than done once, which matters if you are trying to fit a course into a single trip. If you are weighing the sensation of the injections themselves, that is covered separately in our note on what Rejuran actually feels like.

Questions people ask before booking

Can I fly the next day?

Flying itself is not the problem; the cabin is dry and you may be more aware of tightness. The practical issue is that you will be away from the clinic if anything needs looking at. If your schedule allows a day in the city afterwards, take it.

When can I wear makeup again?

Clinics commonly ask for a day before covering the injection points. Confirm with yours rather than assuming, since it depends on how the session went.

Can I go to a jjimjilbang or sauna?

Not in the first days. Heat prolongs redness and makes bruising more obvious, which is the opposite of what you want on a short trip.

Is it safe for darker or sensitive skin?

Polynucleotide injections are not a light-based treatment, so the pigment concerns that apply to lasers work differently here. That is not the same as a clearance for every skin type or condition. It is a question for the consultation, with your history in front of the doctor.

What will it cost?

We do not quote a figure, because we do not have a dated, sourced price observation for Rejuran. Prices vary with district, the product used and the amount injected, so ask the clinic for the price on its Korean-language menu and what one session includes.

In short

Rejuran recovery, condensed

Redness and bumps for a day. Tenderness for a few. Bruising is the variable that can stretch to a week, and it is the one to plan around. The result the treatment is actually for develops over months, not during the visible recovery. Book early in a trip, skip the sauna and the drinks for a few days, and ask the clinic about anything you take that thins the blood.

Rejuran is injected at many points across the treated area, and the visible recovery is the skin closing those points rather than the treatment itself working.

Redness and small raised bumps settle within about a day. Bruising, when it happens, is the part that can last a week.

Sources & Verification Notes

Specific numbers in this article were checked against public and peer-reviewed sources where possible. Where a source below reports a different figure than the text above, or no source could be found, that’s noted explicitly rather than left unverified.

  • MFDS (Korea): Rejuran (polynucleotide/PN, derived from salmon DNA) is approved in Korea as a medical device. The specific approved indication for products like Rejuran HB Plus is improving crow’s-feet wrinkles, which is narrower than the general “skin rejuvenation” framing used in most marketing. • Real randomized trials measure different outcomes than the percentages cited above: one found a 57% reduction in a standardized wrinkle-severity score (Vera et al. 2025), and another found 82% of patients reported more than 25% self-assessed improvement at 6 months (Yogya et al. 2022), both reviewed in Alhussain et al., Cureus 2026. (PMC13453133)
  • A separate systematic review found a statistically significant hydration improvement for PN versus hyaluronic acid at 16 weeks, but did not report a percentage figure (Lampridou et al., Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology 2024). (PMC11845969)
  • Who should not have polynucleotide injections (fish or seafood allergy, pregnancy and breastfeeding, active infection in the area, bleeding tendency or anticoagulants, some autoimmune conditions) and the usual course of redness and swelling are summarised in the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s EyeWiki.
